Due to NDA I cannot write everything on here about my projects. Please contact me here or at my email for further details.

Overview

Over the Summer of 2020, I interned remotely with Bungie’s User Research Team. Bungie is a major video game developer that currently works on Destiny 2, a popular MMORPG title with an estimated 35 million players. As part of the User Research Team, I got to work on a variety of systems across the game, as well as gain insight into the research process for products like Bungie’s.

IMPACTS

During my time at Bungie, I got to touch a bunch of projects and as such, got to learn a lot about the many methods that the User Research Team employs. Due to NDA, I cannot share all the specifics here, but these are some impacts that I made in the team’s projects during my time with them.

  • Wrote post-test interview questions for user testing.

  • Analyzed and built visualizations of data from a large survey that compared users from across the world.

  • Took notes and built presentations on remote user tests.

  • Gathered and presented data to help a team create a new feature within Destiny 2.

  • Created and facilitated a survey that was sent out to thousands of players.

  • “Dramatically increased throughput” during my time with the team, according to a Senior User Researcher.

Reflections

I had a great time working on Bungie’s User Research team, and I gained a lot of really valuable skills in data collection and analysis. Since my experience was remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I also gained a lot of experience with the remote work lifestyle and communication methods. Finally, since we used the Agile system at Bungie, I was not only able to get a lot of experience with this type of working environment, but I learned a lot about what others on the team were working on, and was able to get very specific advice from experts in different fields on the team. Working at Bungie certainly left and impact on me, and I believe that I was able to make an impact on the company in return. My work gave multiple teams great starting points and lots of information towards making impactful additions to Destiny 2.
